Scottsdale Workshop 2/27/25

Kicking Off 2025 with Connection: Scottsdale’s Networking for Writers Workshop

On February 27th, I had the joy of kicking off my 2025 workshop season at 1951 @ SkySong in Scottsdale—one of ASU’s spacious, modern coworking hubs. With over twenty incredible writers filling the room, the energy felt electric from the moment we began.

We started with a mindset shift: networking isn’t transactional—it’s transformational. From there, we explored the three types of networking every writer can use to build a thriving literary community:

  • Networking to Learn

  • Networking to Connect Others

  • Networking to Sell (with authenticity)

We also dug into where to find your people, how to approach new connections without feeling awkward, and the simple, repeatable strategy that helps you build relationships you can maintain for years.

What I loved most? The variety—romance authors, sci-fi writers, memoirists, poets, and brand-new beginners showed up ready to grow. Conversations buzzed across the room, and I watched strangers become collaborators right before my eyes. It was the perfect atmosphere to talk about community, courage, and the power of showing up.

If this night was any clue, 2025 is going to be a year of big connections and even bigger creativity.
